Schaumburg sits about 26 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, in Cook and DuPage counties and the 847/224 and 630/331 area codes. It grew from farmland into one of the region’s biggest shopping and entertainment hubs, and it is a short drive from our shop in Roselle. Here are five places worth a visit. 1. Woodfield Mall
Woodfield Mall opened in 1971 and is the largest shopping mall in Illinois. It holds well over 200 stores and restaurants, from department stores to brand flagships.
It is a year-round stop, especially in winter, when an indoor walk beats the weather, and it anchors a busy stretch of Golf Road with more dining and entertainment nearby.

2. Wintrust Field
Wintrust Field opened in 1999 and is home to the Schaumburg Boomers, a professional baseball team in the independent Frontier League. The Metra station next door makes it easy to reach by train.
Summer games are a local tradition and an affordable family outing compared with a trip to a downtown ballpark.

3. Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament
Medieval Times opened its Chicago-area castle in Schaumburg in 1991, on Roselle Road. The show pairs a meal with a live tournament of knights on horseback, jousting and sword fights.
It is a popular pick for birthdays and group outings, and the castle itself is hard to miss from the road.

Beyond books, it has an Innovation Hub, a children’s area called the Enchanted Forest and a Teen Place, which makes it a good rainy-day stop for local families.
