Step by Step Guide to Replacing Halogen Bulbs

We are sure you would know that halogen bulbs aren’t the latest bulbs with energy-efficient properties. They work using tungsten wire. The wire filament of tungsten metal is heated with electricity to illuminate the bulb. Although they work better than the incandescent bulb types, you can still not regard them as the best ones.

When changing the halogen bulbs in your home, we suggest you switch to CFLs or LEDs. But if you want to stick to the halogen bulbs, even that is fine.

This article covers the complete guide to replacing halogen bulbs in your home.

Step by Step guide to replace halogen bulbs:

  1. Switch off the main power or at least the power for the room in which you have to replace the halogen bulbs.
  2. Put on a glove or use a piece of clothing to hold the bulb. Ideally, it is better to wait for 10 minutes before touching the bulb. Halogen bulbs can be very hot when switched on, so it is better to take precautionary measures.
  3. Multiple types of halogen bulbs are available in the market. It is better to replace the bulb with the same model as the voltage requirements could be different.
  4. There are two different closures for a halogen bulb. Some of them can be directly pilled out, while the others require unclinging the metal clip. Use the nose pliers to unclip the lock. However, it will still be connected with the wires.
  5. Now twist the bulb and pull it out of the socket (if it requires twisting); otherwise, pull it out straight.
  6. Take the new bulb, line it up to fit the grooves, and push the bulb in.
  7. Now lock it in place by twisting to the opposite side from which you removed it.
  8. Reattach the protective covering of the bulb if there was any.
  9. Turn the power on, and your new halogen bulb should work.
